Karousades
Karousades is a large village in the north part of Corfu island, between Roda and Sidari. It is almost merged with the neighbor settlements of Kavaliouri and Antiperni, and over 1000 local residents live here all year round. Karousades is 2 km away from the seaside and the closest beach is Astrakeri.
Although not by the sea, Karousades is relatively alive and has mini markets, tavernas, cafes and a pharmacy. Most of the houses are old and in the typical Corfiot architecture, mixed with newer buildings in the same style. Some parts of the village offer view toward the green valleys around. No hotels are available but there are holiday homes and rooms to rent, in a authentic and peaceful atmosphere and yet close to the beach. Sidari with its famous Canal D`amour is less than 15 minutes drive. highlights: large village close to Astrakeri and Sidari, village in Corfu, Ionian Islands, Greece
Sidari
Sidari is a lively resort in the northern part of Corfu, about 35 km from the capital of the island. It is famous for Canal D`Amour or the Channel of Love – a narrow bay between two interesting sea rocks.
The resort is relatively new and formed by the merger of two seaside villages with common coastline. Suitable mainly for groups of friends, young couples or solo travelers.. There are various restaurants, bars and clubs, supermarkets, shops, ATMs, a small park and everything you need for your holiday. Boat trips are organized to the small nearby islands (Ereikoussa, Mathraki and Othonoi) and to the Albanian town of Saranda.
The most interesting place in Sidari are its beaches. They are separated by porous clay cliffs which give a yellowish color of the water around the coast. The main beach is next to the port and offers a variety of water sports – jet ski, water ski, banana, parasailing and diving. It is very long and organized with plenty of sunbeds and parasols. The sand is very fine and wet, and the water is very shallow even though there are often waves in this part of the island. The west end of this beach is known as Kastro and is separated by a small river flowing into the sea. The third beach is the area of Canal D`Amour. It consists of one small beach and two rock channels from both its sides. The real Canal D`amour is to the west and it has a small opening in the rock which allows you to swim through it to the other side. The last beach of Sidari is the small Apotripiti beach, accessible via a narrow road starting from the outskirts of the resort. highlights: lively resort with three beaches and Canal D`Amour, village in Corfu, Ionian Islands, Greece
Canal D`Amour
Canal D`Amour (or the Channel of Love) is the most famous place in Sidari and one of the most interesting spots on Corfu as well. It is a narrow channel between two porous terraced cliffs, with a tiny beach. Depending on weather conditions, the beach may be overwhelmed by waves and people usually spread their towels on the cliffs. The sea bottom is very shallow around the shore, covered by the soft clayish sand typical for the area.
There are various beliefs why the place is called the Channel of Love. One of them is based on the small tunnel in the porous rock which allows you to swim through it and exit from the other side where there is another smaller channel. They say that namely this tunnel gave the name and if couples in love swim through it together, they will stay together forever. Anyway, not only couples come here and it gets crowded in certain periods of the day, especially in July and August. Sunbeds to rent are available from a neighbor cafe, as well as drinks and snacks.
Agios Spyridon Acharavi
Agios Spyridon (Agios Spyridonas) is a beach in the northernmost part of Corfu, close to Almyros and Acharavi. Be careful not to confuse it with the main beach of Paleokastritsa which is called Agios Spyridon, too.
It used to be an unknown place for tourists but nowadays there are plenty of villas and a large all inclusive hotel complex. The place is not a village and far from the lively resorts of the island but it is not a wild beach any more. The northernmost point of Corfu is less than 1 km from Agios Spyridon and it is called Akra Agia Ekaterini, a small rocky cape.
Agios Spyridon consists of two neighbor bays, both sandy and with very shallow water. The beaches are organized with sunbeds and parasols to rent, there are also showers. By the sea you will find a few Greek tavernas, serving traditional and international dishes. If you to be on a quieter and not organized beach, just 300 meters westwards you will find the small cove of Gialliskari, again with sand and shallow water. The villas are scattered in the area, surrounded by grass and low trees, and right behind the beach there is a wetland which have formed a lake and is protected as a natural reserve. The lake is called Antinioti and it reaches the far end of Almyros.
