Moraitika, Corfu
Moraitika is a village about 20 km from the capital Corfu Town, on the east coast of the island. Its seaside area is right next to Messongi, but both are separated by a river. The river flows into the sea and separates the beach strip into two part – Moraitika to the north and Messongi to the south.
The main road passes a few hundred meters away from the sea, and most facilities like shops, super markets, restaurants, pharmacy and medical center can be found around it. The village has old houses and narrow streets where you can have short walks and stumble upon a few family run tavernas. The hotels are spread mainly between the main road and the beach, as some of them are in front of the sea and have private beach areas with sunbeds and parasols for their clients.
The beach of Moraitika is predominantly sandy, with small pebbles around the shore and shallow water. Beach bars, water sports and boat trips are available.
Messongi
Messongi (Messonghi) is a beach on the east coast of Corfu, 23 km from the capital of the island. It is next to Moraitika but both are separated by a river which flows into the sea and divides the beach strip into two parts, as the south part is called Messongi and the north part – Moraitika.
Messongi has developed as a small resort with hotels, guesthouses, tavernas and beach bars. In contrast to Moraitika, where all shops and services are along the main road, in Messongi everything is around the beach – one bakery, one super market and a small shop for souvenirs, and overall the resort is calmer.
The beach of Messongi is narrow but long, with calm water and gradually sloping seafloor. It is covered with coarse sand and pebbles, especially around the shore. There are a few beach tavernas with sunbeds and parasols, water sports, center for diving lessons and organized boat trips. A coastal road connects Messongi with the tranquil beach of Boukari where you can find fish taverns.
Boukari
Boukari (also Boukaris and Mpoukaris) is a small fishing harbor with small beach on the southeast coast of Corfu island. It is the seaside area of the inland village of Kouspades which is less than 1 km away.
Boukari has a few hotels and a handful of houses with rooms and apartments to rent, lined along a narrow pebbled beach. The place is better known for its fish tavernas which serve fresh fish and seafood right by the sea and some of them offers sunbeds and parasols as well. The beach strip has pebbles both on the shore and in the water but the sea is always very calm and there are no waves at all.
Boukari is away from the main island roads and thus suitable for relaxing holiday and lazy days on the beach. The larger seaside village of Petriti is just 3 km away, and Messongi is 5 km away, both easily accessible via a local coastal road.
